About us
PhytaCell was founded in the 1990s by Sally Scrimshaw and focused on providing herbaceous perennials to nurseries in the northeastern US.
In 2021, PhytaCell changed hands to Nina Bassuk, Ryan Georgia, and Andrew Smith leading propagators based in Ithaca, NY. Since the transition, PhytaCell has expanded to offer sedges, woody plants, and tropical plants across North America.
Plants produced by PhytaCell are the gold standard for our customers. They’re larger than other plants in the market and acclimate quickly. We ship on time and will provide you with best-in-class service.

Custom Lab Work
We work directly with clients to initiate and maintain clean plant cultures for a small annual fee. If you ever experience a virus or disease issue, we can immediately replenish your growing facility with clean material. Don’t lose a critical variety in your catalog.
